Atlantic School of Theology is committed to academic excellence. As such, on December 2, 2024, the Board of Governors, in concurrence with Atlantic School of Theology Senate, made three decisions.

Dr. Evangeline Kozitza Dean has been offered another three-year contract. Dr. Evangeline Kozitza Dean is a much-respected New Testament scholar who is a creative and committed educator. As the Faculty Review Committee of Senate noted in its assessment “. . . we affirm her innovative scholarship and her deep commitment to research as foundational to her academic vocation.”

The Rev. Dr. Rob Fennell has been promoted to full professor. Dr. Fennell is an exemplary instructor, a prolific writer, an astute researcher and someone who is committed to service in the community, with a particular concern for economic justice. “Through seven years as Academic Dean and a period as Acting President, Dr. Fennell demonstrated his capability as an administrator, [and yet] teaching is at the heart of Dr. Fennell’s vocation,” says the Faculty Review Committee. “Dr. Fennell’s commitment to AST is unwavering and we look forward to the contributions he will make in the future.”

Atlantic School of Theology will confer the status of Professor Emerita on the Rev. Dr. Susan Willhauck at the May 2025 Convocation. Although Dr. Willhauck has been retired for several years, she continues to research, write and contribute to academia and to church life. She has had an extensive career of pastoring, teaching, researching, writing, and leading. Her contributions to our understanding of the experience of women pastors in church life, particularly the existence of “the stained-glass ceiling,” has been immeasurable.

These three are examples of the committed faculty and staff at AST who enable the university to shape ordained and lay people for leadership in a challenging world.
