The AST Residence

As a small university, AST promotes a safe, friendly, and smoke-free environment. Our Residence is a co-ed community with students attending AST, Dalhousie, Saint Mary’s, Nova Scotia Community College, and Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Students feel at home here. Everyone knows your name, allowing you to develop lasting friendships.

The Residence has accommodation for students in large or small rooms and also offers apartments with sitting-room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom, suitable for parents with children. Apartments are few in number, and not available every year. Students already in Residence will be offered an apartment should one become available before applications are taken from outside the community. Students who live in our dorm rooms use shared kitchens which also have dining space and are outfitted with all the usual kitchen appliances. There is coin-operated laundry onsite, as well as a small boutique-style convenience store.

AST is located in south end Halifax, overlooking the Northwest Arm of Halifax, a few minutes’ walk from Saint Mary’s University and Point Pleasant Park, and within walking distance of Dalhousie, downtown, and Metro bus routes.

We’re proud to offer one of the lowest rates for university residence in Halifax. As an AST resident, you will also have access to our modern library, which is part of the Novanet system and offers study spaces and public computers for class work and/or Internet access.

Introducing AST’s Student Residence Coordinator for the Sexual Violence Awareness Prevention Program

A head shot of Jules Jager

Meet Jules Jager, a third-year mechanical engineering student at Dalhousie University. Jules was raised in Ottawa, ON, and moved to Halifax for studies. Jules’ research work and pastimes focus on the development of technologies for increased sustainability of human activities, i.e., energy storage and wind-powered vehicles. After a long day of studies, you might find Jules jogging along the shoreline at Point Pleasant Park or staring up at the stars. AST has been home for a year now and Jules wants to do everything possible to support this community. Jules will be working together with a small team of trained peer facilitators in the Residence at AST, and we’re looking forward to a great year of programming!
