Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

January 18-25, 2024

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is celebrated around the World on January 18-25. This universal week of prayer encourages Christians of all denominations to meet, to participate in various liturgical and other community activities, and to pray together that all may be one, as Christ desires.

This year in Halifax the week will begin and end with prayer services on the campus of Atlantic School of Theology. AST was founded in 1972 by the Anglican, Roman Catholic and United Churches. Other services will take place in Anglican, Roman Catholic, Baptist and Maronite churches in buildings that date from the 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Guest preachers will be drawn from the Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran and Roman Catholic traditions.

For the Sunday afternoon service at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica Archbishop Brian Dunn and the rector, Father Craig Cameron, invite all ecumenical clergy to vest, join the entrance procession and sit in the sanctuary. Organist Greg Doyle invites all singers up to the choir loft at 2 pm to form an ecumenical choir, meet each other and rehearse.
